I filmed the whole thing before I knew it would work.

The first video I ever posted was me leaving the trades. I hadn't actually done it yet. I just wanted it on record — either this was possible, or it wasn't and I'd have proof of that too.

I put it on the internet before it worked

I was a chippy on new builds. Up early, home late, and there was one number at the end of the week no matter what I did about it.

So I started filming. Not because I had anything figured out — I had nothing figured out. I just didn't want to be the guy who talked about it and quietly stopped.

Then eight months of nothing.

I tried everything you're supposed to try. Agencies, software, online stores, trading crypto at two in the morning. You name it, I've probably tried it.

Eight months. Nothing worked. I'm not going to pretend that part was short.

Nobody would hire me.

When I finally worked out what I wanted to do, I applied everywhere. SEEK, Indeed, LinkedIn, every platform you can think of.

Every one of them said the same thing. No experience, no training, no thanks.

That's the part nobody warns you about. It isn't that the opportunity isn't real — it's that nobody hands it to someone who can't do it yet. So I went and got trained properly, and that changed the answer.

The part I actually care about

Half of what you see online is LARPing. I've done it — rented the car, filmed it, posted it. It's fine. It's just not the thing.

The thing was my mum asking for a pair of headphones and me just buying them. Paying her bills when they came up. That's the part that actually changed.
